Trying to get the brine shrimp to follow the light so that we can move them into the bigger tank using a siphon!

Today we are just looking under the microscope to see the hatching eggs! Hopefully we can gather some look pictures! ❤️ Our pump went out yesterday so they new eggs that were in the hatchery didn't hatch😞😫 Today we are going to be remaking the hatchery with new eggs and a new salt concentration. And hopefully fixing the air pump!!!!🙏 Added 950mL of salt concentrated water to the tank and started a new hatchery today! Shrimpies shrimpies shrimpies!☺️ Looked at them through the scope today! They are so cute swimming around! You can totally see the unhatched and hatched brine shrimp! Today we looked at the brine shrimp through ta microscope and discovered that they were ready to be moved into the 5 gallon tank. We prepared the tank by putting our 2% salt concentration in it. We also put in the air stones to help keep it circulated and give more oxygen to the shrimp. to get the brine shrimp out of the hatchery without the unhatched eggs remains we put a flashlight to the side of the tank and the siphoned the alive brine shrimp into a cup and then put them into the tank. Today we started to set up the 5 gallon tank. We put 4,000mL of pure water in the tank. We are letting this sit over night to make sure the water is room temperature and we will then add the 2% salt concentration. We must make sure the conditions in he tank are the same as the brine shrimp hatchery in order for them to survive. This is out new brine shrimp hatchery! We stared off putting in 500mL of pure water(must be pure water) then with about a 2% salt concentration which is needed for brine shrimp survival. We also hooked up a air pump at the bottom of the tank to allow circulation through the tank. Which is nessary for them to breathe once they hatch! They will stay in here for about 2-4 days until they are fully hatched and then they will be moved to a 5 gallon tank to grow into adults! |
Reagan OlsenFor my project based science class, we are making a brine shrimp hatchery and blogging our daily activities to keep track what we have done. |
